BIBLICAL REFERENCES TO WORSHIP DANCE

  • Exodus 15:20: Then the prophet Miriam, Aaron’s sister, took a tambourine in her hand; and all the women went out after her with tambourines and with dancing.
  • 2 Samuel 6:14-16: David danced before the Lord with all his might; David was girded with a linen ephod. So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet. As the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal daughter of Saul looked out of the window, and saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord;
  • Psalm 30:11-12: You have turned my mourning into dancing; you have taken off my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, so that my soul may praise you and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever.
  • Psalm 149:3: Let them praise his name with dancing, making melody to him with tambourine and lyre.
  • Psalm 150:4: Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe!
  • Ecclesiastes 3:4: A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
  • Jeremiah 31:4: Again I will build you, and you shall be built, O virgin Israel! Again you shall take your tambourines, and go forth in the dance of the merrymakers.
  • Jeremiah 31:13: Then shall the young women rejoice in the dance, and the young men and the old shall be merry. I will turn their mourning into joy, I will comfort them, and give them gladness for sorrow.
