CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Described below, by age from toddlers to adults:

We offer Christian-based, wholesome dance classes for children, teens, and adults. Our classes open with prayer. Music is carefully selected and costumes are modest.

Mommy & Me (Parent / Child)

This class is a fun way for parents or grandparents and children to explore and interact together. Movement, music, games, and parachute activities will be included to help parents and children explore with dance movement. Class includes a fun dress up dance!
Dance Attire: Any clothing comfortable to move in such as T-shirts, shorts, sweats, leotards, leggings. Bare feet or dance shoes.

Creative

Children are encouraged to imaginatively express themselves through movement. The use of tambourines, scarves, fans, stuffed animals, and other props are used to help achieve this. Class ends with a fun dress up dance! Students will present a special performance in the studio on the last day of class.
Dance Attire: Any clothing comfortable to move in such as T-shirts, shorts, sweats, leotards, leggings. Bare feet or dance shoes.

Intro to Pre-Ballet / Pre-Tap

Students will be introduced to foundational dance concepts such as shapes, tempo of music and movement, levels, floor patterns and locomotor skills. Stretching, steps across the floor, development of coordination, circle dances, improvisation and creative movement will also be included.  Class ends with a fun dress up dance! Students will present a special performance in the studio on the last day of class.

Dance Attire:  Any clothing comfortable to move in such as T-shirts, shorts, sweats, leotards, leggings.  Bare feet or dance shoes.

Pre-Ballet / Pre-Tap

Students will learn basic ballet positions and basic tap steps, center technique, steps across the floor, and dance routines. Improvisation and creative movement will also be included.
Dance Attire for girls: Leotard, tights, ballet shoes, skirts no longer than knee length are optional. Pink tights and pink ballet shoes are required for performances but other colors may be worn during class. Hair must be up in a bun or pulled back away from face.
Dance Attire for boys: Dance pants, sweats, shorts or tights and a T-shirt. Black ballet shoes.

Move & Groove!
A simplified Hip Hop with wholesome, upbeat music for boys and girls ages 5-7 and 7-9.  A great way to begin dance if you want a stronger looking dance that is fun, aerobic and energetic.

Dance Attire: Black tennis shoes or black jazz shoes for performance. Any tennis shoes
can be worn for class as long as they have not been worn outside. As long as kids can move around, any dance attire (except jeans) is acceptable.

Ballet

Students will learn classical ballet barre and center technique. Vocabulary, proper alignment, stretching, steps across the floor, and dance routines will be included.
Dance Attire for girls: Leotard, tights, ballet shoes, skirts no longer than knee length are optional and allowed in some classes. Pink tights and pink ballet shoes are required for performances but other colors may be worn during class. Hair must be up in a bun.
Dance Attire for boys: Dance pants, sweats, shorts or tights and a T-shirt. Black ballet shoes.

Tap

Students will learn basic tap rhythms, technique, and steps across the floor, which will then be incorporated into dance routines.
Dance Attire: Black, flat tap shoes are required. Pre-Tap may wear Payless, Capezio or Bloch brands. For Tap I, II, III and IV Bloch oxford, synthetic or leather or Capezio leather must be worn. No synthetic Capezio. Tap shoes with flexible soles are not allowed for Tap I - IV. Any comfortable dance attire may be worn.

Jazz

Students will be introduced to the basic steps of jazz including turns, leaps, isolations, and stretches. Warm-up, steps across the floor, and a dance routine will also be included.
Dance Attire: Black jazz shoes are required. Bloch and Capezio brands are recommended. Jazz pants, bike shorts, T-shirts, leotards and tights are all acceptable.

Hip Hop

High energy, upbeat, percussive, “street-style” movement.
Dance Attire: Black athletic shoes or dance sneakers for performances but any color is fine during class. No street shoes are allowed on the dance floors so please bring in a pair of shoes that will only be worn on the dance floor.

Lyrical

Lyrical incorporates the basics of ballet, jazz, and modern, and concentrates on center combinations that will help students learn to dance with new freedom and expression.

Prerequisites: Beginning Lyrical students must have completed Ballet II and be concurrently enrolled in a ballet class of level III or higher.
Dance Attire: Tan slip-on jazz ankle boots (Capezio or Bloch) and any comfortable dance attire.

Modern

Students will learn modern technique, and concepts including suspend and release, falls, contractions, and core strengthening. Expression and exploration are key elements that will be included. Focus will be on body alignment, technique, breadth, and movement quality.
Dance Attire: Bare feet and any comfortable dance attire.

Sonflowers

This is a worship dance performing group for dancers ages 6-8. It is recommended that dancers also take Pre-Ballet or Ballet.

Sonbeams

This worship dance group is for dancers ages 9 and up. Students will learn and rehearse a repertoire of worship dances and have opportunities to share them approximately every month. A variety of dance styles and music will be used, including traditional hymns, contemporary, classical, and various ethnic styles.

Prerequisites: Students must have completed Ballet II or equivalent. It is also recommended that students be concurrently enrolled in a ballet class of level III or higher.

Sonlight

This worship dance ensemble is for adults who would like to learn a variety of worship dances and share this gift with others. Music styles will include traditional hymns, contemporary and sacred classical.

Community Family Dancing

The purpose of these dances is to have a fun, enjoyable afternoon of dancing for the whole family! Various circle dances such as Cotton Eye Joe and Gay Gordons will be taught along with line dances such as Electric Slide.
