Worship Dance

Worship Dance is a visual way to express, interpret, and present the Gospel while dancing to hymns, prayers, songs, or Scripture. We are available to present Worship Dance, teach simple congregational dances during church services and other occasions, and offer liturgical dance workshops.

Worship Dance Ministry Groups

We have been ministering with dance since 1990. We have three ministry groups: Sonflowers (ages 6-8), Sonbeams (ages 9-18) and Sonlight (adults). These groups rehearse a repertoire of worship dances on a weekly basis. They are offered for dancers who would like to learn a variety of worship dances and share this gift with others. Dancers have opportunities to minister with dance in places such as church services and rest homes. A variety of dance styles including ballet, folk, sign language, and interpretive will be included. Music styles will include traditional hyms, contemporary, and classical.

Presentations

Soaring Spirit dancers have presented dance in worship services, church conventions, retreats, rest homes, church musicals, weddings, memorial services, festivals, recitals, concerts, and ordinations. Examples from the repertoire include: The Lord’s Prayer, Amazing Grace, Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring and His Eye is on the Sparrow. Extended works include choreography to the Requiems by Gabriel Fauré and John Rutter.

Music

Pre-recorded music is provided, or dancing is done with vocal or instrumental music provided by church musicians. Costuming is modest and appropriate to the season of the church year.
